REVIEW:
HASBRO DPV
by C. Martin
When the Desert Patrol Vehicle first came out, I was very skeptical- $80.00 for a figure and rider? But then I got mine off the Internet for $25.00 plus shipping. Plus, I managed to sell the figure to a local collector for $10.00. So the "$80.00" DPV ended up costing me about $20.00.
| Wow, this thing's pretty impressive, right out of the box. It appears to be to scale when compared to a 'Joe.
...It has a nice wide stance. |
|
| Check out the "dirty" tires... |
|
|
"Hey! These tires aren't solid!" (Unfortunately, the shocks are) |
|
| Our trooper decides to take a closer look at the engine compartment.... I'm still puzzeled by the rear-facing weapons mount. The DPV has three mounts, but only two weapons. |
|
| The sticker taillight reminds me of a certain Barbie Boxster...
A mesh engine cover actually hinges up for access to the engine. I'm not sure what the cylinder under Joe's left hand is- the fuel tank? I like the detail on the belts, and the muffler. |

| Hasbro sure didn't scrimp on the interior. Gauges, a nice steering wheel and a hole bunch of stick-shift type controls.
No gas or brak pedal, though.

Upon closer inspection, we see the gauges actually have details- unlike 21st Century's AH-6 cockpit. |
|
|
Maybe those other two controls on the gear shaft are the clutch and brake? (Note all the dust in the passenger compartment. I don't think it's authentic desert debris, but it did come out of the box that way) |

More solid shocks. Not even painted! I'm thinking of goign to an RC shop and buying some better shocks. Or maybe I'll make some replacements out of dowel rods... You can't tell from this photo, but the shocks aren't even round! They're flat on the side facing the engine! |

I love the detail on the front suspension- much better than the Sunnysmile LSV- but again, could have used some painting. I also wonder if the Buzz Aldrin Joe was test driving this model on the moon- that's the only place I know of that would have gray dust. Good effort though on weathering the front end. |

Ah, a .50 cal MG. Now we're talkin'. It has a pretty good mount (traverse but no inclination), and even features a flexible ammo belt. |

Looks good from the front- except that the ammo can molded onto the MG's mount has no bottom! That great rubber belted ammo just spills out the bottom! A little glue and a rectangle of plastic will fix that! |
