MONSTER HUNTER
by C.Martin

After surviving 3 Tremors movies, Burt Gummer has managed to rebuild in Perfection, Nevada again. However, Burt's seismic sensors have detected movement outside his compound. Armed with a Steyr AUG and his trusty Desert Eagle .50, Burt walks his perimeter, watching satellite information on his handlink.
Building Burt:
Burt uses a great line in the Film Tremors 2: Aftershocks, when he states "Doin' what I can with what I got." I decided to use this philosophy when kitbashing Burt.

Burt himself is a SOTW Super-Articulated figure (I forget which one) who I made going bald with a dremel, then used a permanent marker to change hair and eyebrow colors, and add in the Elvis-like sideburns and a thick moustache. Maybe later I'll use putty to build up the facial hair, but for a quick job, it looks great.

Burt is wearing a 21st T-shirt, 21st SWAT Sharpshooter pants and boots, 21st cut off gloves, and, I hate to admit it, Ken's shirt (my daughter hasn't noticed it missing yet). Burt is sporting Hasbro Tuskegee sunglasses, painted black with a permanent marker. Burt's hat started out as a 21st SWAT Sharpshooter cap. I sanded off the SWAT label, then painted it white and red with acrylics, then printed off a tiny HAWKS label and glued it on. Looks much better in photos than in person...

I also decided that Burt has learned from the first three movies, and always carries plenty of ammo. Burt has three 21st M-9 ammo pouches (for the Desert Eagle) on his belt, and a SWAT double mag case in the small of his back. Burt also likes his new Mil-spec bayonet (also by 21st), and wears his fancy Motorola Saber radio over his left hip. Burt got rid of his ultrasonic watch (which attracted Graboids) in favor of a SOTW diving watch. Burt is kept advised of Graboid movements by means of a satellite uplink that looks suspiciously like a Hasbro GPS device.

In Tremors 3: Back to Perfection, Burt carries a Mini-14 modified with a Muzzlelite bullpup stock. As far as I know, nobody makes this in 1:6 scale. So, I decided to give Burt a Steyr AUG- it has an integral scope in the carry handle and can accept an underbarrel grenade launcher.
Burt's assault vest in the film (which he uses as a kind of wearable toolbox) is closely approximated by 21st's CQB vest. (My Burt would fill those magazine pouches with Steyr clips- instead of tools).
For Burt's sidearm, I happened to have a silver BBI Desert Eagle (ordered piecemeal from War-Toys). It fits nicely in a 21st dropdown holster.

After all was said and done, Burt took about three hours to make. I have figured out how to build a custom Grizzly .50 BMG, but that will have to wait for later. For now, I'm working on a 1:6 scale Graboid for Burt to fight.
